Presque Isle County is located along Lake Huron on the northeastern shore of Michigan’s lower peninsula. The county has an area of 678 square miles, which includes 72 miles of shoreline. The county consists of fourteen townships, two cities and two villages. The County seat is located in Rogers City.
The county has three lighthouses and three marinas located on Lake Huron. The 40 Mile Pointe Lighthouse is the new county park. Presque Isle also contains two state parks, Hoeft State Park located just outside of Rogers City and the Onaway State Park located north of the City of Onaway.
There are numerous State Forest campgrounds located throughout the county one at the Ocqueoc Falls in Ocqueoc Township just off M68 between Rogers City and Onaway. The Ocqueoc Falls is the largest waterfall in the Lower Peninsula.
Presque Isle County is also known for its karst formations of underground rivers and sinkholes, and contains the world’s largest open pit limestone quarry with a deep-water port.
